Renaissance and Godfrey: a boutique and a traditional industrial agency
Choose Godfrey when you want a full-service industrial agency founded in 1947, with strategy, creative, demand, events and PR under one roof and a team of 50 or more by its own count. Choose Renaissance when your product is complex, your sales cycle runs in quarters, and you want a senior team that takes six new clients a year and runs an AI-operated studio on every account. Neither publishes its prices, so ask both for a fee range in writing.

What does each agency say about itself?
Godfrey describes itself on its home page as “The Complete B2B Marketing Agency” (Godfrey, home page, read 26 October 2026) and says on its about page that it has been around since 1947 (Godfrey, About). Its services page lists strategy (brand strategy, messaging, analytics and industry research), creative (brand identity, content, event marketing and sales promotion) and demand (SEO, paid search, social, email, media planning and buying, and PR) (Godfrey, Services). The menu on its home page names eight industries, among them chemicals, HVAC and refrigeration, heavy equipment and manufacturing (Godfrey, home page). Its work page lists case studies for clients that include Bosch Rexroth, Emerson, SKF and Solenis, with no outcome figures shown (Godfrey, Work).

What do third parties add?
Clutch lists Godfrey with no rating and no reviews, and shows its rate and minimum project size as undisclosed (Clutch, Godfrey, read 26 October 2026). A buyer who wants independent evidence on Godfrey therefore has to ask the agency for references. Headcount differs by source: LBBOnline reported 75 team members in November 2022 (LBBOnline, 7 November 2022), Godfrey's site says 50+ today, and Clutch shows a band of 50 to 249. Ask either agency for the current number of people who would work on your account, by name.
Godfrey states that it is led by Stacy Whisel and Erin Michalak and holds Women's Business Enterprise certification (Godfrey, About). LBBOnline reports that it is in its fourth generation of ownership.
What evidence can you check before a first call?
| Evidence | Godfrey | Renaissance |
|---|---|---|
| Prices or fee range | None on its site; Clutch shows rate and minimum project as undisclosed | None published; the site offers a thirty-minute first call at no cost |
| Independent reviews | None on Clutch | Not covered by the sources read for this page; ask for references |
| Named clients | Case studies on its work page for clients such as Bosch Rexroth, Emerson and SKF | Clients listed on its homepage, including Bosch, SAP, UiPath and PCI Gases |
| Outcome figures in case listings | None shown in the listings | Ask for the buyer outcome behind each named case |
| Current headcount | 50+ on its site; 75 reported by LBBOnline in 2022 | 40 people and 160 agents on its homepage |
Two gaps stand out. Neither agency publishes a price, so the first call is where you learn the cost. And the only independent source on Godfrey is a 2022 trade article, so references from industrial clients carry the weight an independent rating would carry elsewhere.
How do industrial buyers choose between agencies?
Gartner reports that the typical buying group for a complex B2B solution has six to 10 decision makers, that buyers spend only 17% of their buying time meeting potential suppliers, and that a supplier's sales rep gets roughly 5% of a customer's time (Gartner, The B2B Buying Journey, read 26 October 2026). Marketing Week reports a Forrester finding that two-thirds of B2B buyers choose a vendor before engaging (Marketing Week, read 26 October 2026). We read only the headline of the Marketing Week piece, not the Forrester report.
For an agency choice the same pattern applies to you. Your committee reads each agency's site, cases and people before anyone takes a call, so judge both agencies by what they publish: named industrial work with outcomes, named people, a stated method and a fee range.
Which agency fits which situation?
| Your situation | Fits better | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want events, media buying, SEO and PR from one team | Godfrey | Its services page lists them; Renaissance's five practices do not name media buying |
| You want an agency with decades of tenure in chemicals, HVAC or heavy equipment | Godfrey | It lists those industries and has operated since 1947 |
| You want executive voice and investor communications next to brand work | Renaissance | The Executive Desk and Investor Relations are two of its five practices |
| You want a small senior team and a limited client list | Renaissance | It takes six new clients a year |
| You need production at volume from a small bench | Renaissance | It states 160 agents under senior people; ask to see a sample of their output |
| You want a partner network across countries | Godfrey | Its about page cites membership of the Worldwide Partners network, which it describes as over 80 agencies in more than 40 countries |
| You need life sciences or paper and packaging experience | Godfrey | Both appear in its industry menu; Renaissance names energy, manufacturing and industrial technology |
| You need independent reviews before shortlisting | Neither; Godfrey has no Clutch reviews | Ask both for three references in your sector |
What should you ask either agency?
Ask who will join the weekly call and what each of them has delivered for an industrial company in the last two years. Ask to see two named industrial cases with the buyer outcome as well as the creative. Ask how the agency uses AI, who reviews what the AI produces and what happens to your data. Ask what month three of the engagement looks like. Ask for a fee range in writing before any proposal, because neither agency publishes one.
Where does Renaissance fit?
Renaissance publishes this page and is one of the two agencies compared. The fit table gives Godfrey the rows on breadth, network and tenure, and every Godfrey fact comes from what Godfrey, Clutch and LBBOnline publish. For how to judge any agency, see four tests for choosing an industrial marketing agency. For whether to hire an agency at all, see in-house team, agency or freelancer.
Correction, 26 October 2026: an earlier version of this page gave the average B2B buying group as 11 stakeholders. Gartner's page says six to 10, and this version uses that.
